AMII was established in 1998 as a trade association for independent medical insurance advisers based in the UK. Since then the Association’s remit has expanded to encompass the wider health insurance and wellbeing industry.
AMII seeks to work with industry bodies such as: the Association of British Insurers (ABI); the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII); British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA); Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS); advising those who will be making policy decisions which relate to our industry. These organisations recognise and value the specialist knowledge that AMII can provide about the health and wellbeing insurance industry.
AMII has worked in conjunction with the CII to produce the new industry standard training course and examination in health insurance – IF7 Healthcare Insurance Products, which has recently been incorporated into the CII’s new qualification – Certificate in Health & Protection.
Our Member meetings include presentations from leading industry bodies, such as The Financial Ombudsman Service, Chartered Insurance Institute, Private Health Information Network (PHIN), Private Patients Forum (PPF), Deloitte, Reform, and independent treatment providers. Meetings qualify for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. Members regularly comment upon how useful it is to be able to get together with other health and protection insurance professionals (both intermediaries and insurers) to exchange ideas, and to air views and issues.
In addition, members and their staff have subsidised training opportunities. Compliance and regulatory advice is available via Branko Ltd.
Members also benefit from AMII’s work in the promotion of health and wellbeing solutions to employers, employees and consumers; and the benefits of obtaining specialist independent advice.
AMII works on behalf of its membership to represent their views regarding the health insurance and wellbeing sector – to the public, to insurers, and to regulatory and industry bodies. In these ways, we can fulfil our aim of bringing the health insurance and wellbeing industry together.
AMII membership also entitles you to the following benefits:
- Discounts on individual membership of the CII; giving members discounted prices off the CII Study Guides and Examinations. This includes the specialist examinations in health insurance, protection and group risk products which are part of the Cert CII (Heath & Protection) qualification.
- Access to “scheme rates” for professional indemnity insurance through AMII’s preferred P.I insurance broker partner, Brunel Professions.
- Access to FCA regulation and compliance advice through Branko Ltd.
AMII membership also provides a valuable networking opportunity with insurers and other specialist health insurance and wellbeing intermediaries at our regular membership meetings and annual conference.
If you wish to proceed with joining the Association, please complete and return the application form to our General Secretary, Michael Payne at The Old Schoolhouse, Whitecross, Penzance, TR20 8BT, together with your £150 application fee (cheque payable to AMII).
On acceptance of your application, you will then be invoiced for the annual membership fee, depending upon your premium income banding for PMI, on a pro-rata basis for the remainder of 2019. AMII membership renews on April 1st each year.
We look forward to welcoming you as a member of the Association
