Statement from AMII Executive Chairman, Stuart Scullion, in response to COVID-19.
We are scheduled to hold our Conference & AGM on Tuesday 5th May 2020, at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Following discussions with your AMII Executive Committee and Provider Focus Group we have decided to cancel the event as a result of ongoing concerns regarding the escalation of the Covid – 19 Coronavirus.
The Prime Minister recently announced the UK has moved from the Containment to Delay stage with an expectation the Coronavirus epidemic will significantly worsen over the coming weeks, leading to increased numbers of those infected and with further loss of life.
As a result, we feel this is a responsible course of action to take as a leading healthcare organisation representing both Insurers and Intermediary firms. The health and wellbeing of our members is paramount. The decision of the Executive Committee was unanimous.
Under the AMII Constitution we are obliged to hold an Annual General Meeting within 15 months of the last AGM taking place.
It is our intention to conduct our 2020 Annual General Meeting as an online web-based event on a date to be scheduled, during which we will recap 2019 and lay out our plans for the rest of 2020. Members will be able to review and comment upon our 2019 Financial Statement and our 2020 Budget.
There are two Intermediary and two Provider positions under consideration for election to the Executive Committee this year. Michael Payne, General Secretary, will provide you with details as to how you can put yourselves forward for consideration. It is our intention to conduct voting online prior to the event and announce the results on the day.
A further communication of the date and timings of the web-based AGM and how you join, and vote, will follow once we have finalised arrangements.
Please could I request that you share this communication with all those colleagues who would normally attend AMII events.
I hope you agree this is both a sensible and pragmatic approach in the circumstances.
Stuart Scullion, AMII Executive Chairman
