Choice Benefits Limited has joined the Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (AMII) after being impressed by its lobbying and educational reputation as the ‘voice of the industry’.

Based in Lancashire, Choice Benefits is the latest member to join AMII, the leading trade association representing approximately 140 intermediaries, insurers and providers across the health and wellbeing sector.

Choice Benefits was founded by Director Terry Shelbourne five years ago, after a career spent working in the medical industry, including the NHS, before being headhunted by Bupa and going on to head up the SME and corporate team at the then-Chase Templeton.

Today Choice Benefits looks after a ‘deliberately focused client base’ of PMI and protection policies for small corporates and SMEs.

Terry said: “I wanted Choice Benefits to join AMII because of the lobbying impact they have had – they truly represent and speak on behalf of all their members and are the voice of the industry.

“When I was heading up the SME team in previous roles, I went to a lot of AMII events as well as AMII’s annual summit and so I know the value of the educational side of the association.

“AMII is not just a qualified and authorised trade body – the workshops and events are informative and educational for the whole sector.”

Stuart Scullion, AMII Chairman, said: “In recent years we have petitioned and lobbied the government against a rise in Insurance Premium Tax (IPT), held workshops on the EU’s landmark Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) and hosted an AGM addressing the fast-changing healthcare industry.

“It is very pleasing to hear that, as a result, we are attracting and engaging with new members keen to learn more about our sector, regulation and best practice.”

Choice Benefits is the latest member to join the not-for-profit body this year, following County Employee Benefits Limited (CEB), Morehealth and Pacific Prime Consultants in recent months.

AMII membership benefits include participation at national conferences, technical regulatory compliance support, parliamentary and regulatory lobbying, Preferential Professional Indemnity Insurance cover, online technical advice and professional support, an education events programme and opportunities to network with industry colleagues.
