The Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) is believes Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, missed a great opportunity in Wednesday’s Budget Statement to reverse one of the ‘unfair and inconsistent’ taxes by not removing the Class 1A National Insurance charge on employer paid private medical insurance.

ECJ Gender Ruling – Limited impact on Private Medical Insurance
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has today announced that the use of gender in underwriting will be outlawed from 21 December 2012. This decision is to apply to all forms of insurance, including protection and private medical insurance. However, the impact on private medical insurance (PMI) is likely to be less significant than other sectors of the insurance industry.
